Irish Soda Bread
 
 
Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, soft
  • ½ cup raisins
  • 2 tbsp. caraway or fennel seed
  • 3 tbsp. cider vinegar
  • ¾ cup milk
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Sift flower into mixing bowl
  3. Mix in baking soda, baking powder, salt and sugar
  4. Cut in butter until corn like mixture.
  5. Stir in raisins and caraway or fennel seed.
  6. In a small bowl mix milk and vinegar together.
  7. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture.
  8. Add all the liquid at one time, stirring until everything is moist.
  9. Turn dough onto a floured surface.
  10. Knead dough 8-10 times.
  11. Shape dough into a ball, place on a greased tray and cut a cross into the top.
  12. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes
  13. Reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees and bake for another 30 minutes.
