Since this whole “cooking and blogging” thing seems to be sticking, I figured I better get myself a cool apron. What kind of self respecting food blogger doesn’t own a proper apron?
Were I a craftier lady, I would just make one. I am not. Sewing and brain surgery are about equal in my mind, in terms of skill level. Example: Middle school home ec. class, circa 1986, Sewing Day (as opposed to Cooking Day, in which a bunch of 12 year olds are taught to make quiche- wth?). Making a simple pair of shorts turned into a nightmare filled with 3 different broken needles on 3 different sewing machines and the teacher asking me, “Why don’t we just let someone else finish those up for you?” before I even really had anything started. I could scapegoat that teacher for my lack of talent in this area, but all my subsequent attempts went pretty much the same or way, way worse. I am simply not meant to sew.
So I shop.
Bethany Sew-and-Sew is kind of my opposite in terms of skill and coolness in the aprons she makes (and she does custom orders too!):
And there are too many cool Star Wars-themed aprons to count, for both guys and gals! Thinkgeek has both Wars and Trek (and Dune!)…
Of course, Etsy is an absolute goldmine for a variety of styles (Superheroes, Firefly, Dr. Who, Alice):
But I found my true loves (Cthulu and Tesla, as well as MANY food pun aprons) at cafepress:
And lastly, from Zazzle, The Iron Grill (The Army of Darkness Boomstick apron at the beginning of this post is also from them.):
Check out our pinterest board Cooking in Space for tons of sci-fi kitchen accessories to go with these aprons. I would seriously kill someone for the Boba Fett mixer.
Check back on my next post to find out which apron I choose…
