Every Thanksgiving I attend an orphan dinner (or two), as I ususally reserve going home for Christmas. As this is usually a pot luck affair, I always bring a massive haul of Kielbasa because I need to represent my people and traditions from growing up. In the last few years I have also been bringing a corn pudding which is psychotically amazing, and on which I will be doing a post very soon (so you can all make it for your dinners). You would think this would be enough, but I am apparently nothing if not an overachiever, so I have also been tasking myself with coming up with a signature cocktail (or 2) for the day. (I believe this grew from my delusions of wanting to throw fancy parties like I see on TV or in movies)
This process usually begins with a frantic online search for drink ideas a day or two before Thanksgiving, right before going to the grocery store to get all my supplies. Historically I try to come up with supplies that can be shared in order to make 2 options. Usually I seem to gravitate toward 2 main ingredients; cranberry and champagne. Don’t get me wrong, I love both of those things so it always worked out fine and delicious, but I am looking to maybe diversify a bit this year. I need something new, perhaps a punch? I have found that making the cocktails for everyone is fun at the beginning but as the day progresses and mingling begins, the idea of not having to constantly stop to make more drinks for people is appealing. So something self serve might be a nice change.
So this is where I turn to you, dear readers. I’m starting the search early with a call for ideas. I realize it is fairly rare to get comments to these posts, but I’m gonna give it a try. Send me your ideas, or your favorite holiday cocktails in the comments below. Or reply to the twitter or facebook posts. Links to recipes would be a bonus, but I’ll take just a name. I can find a recipe from there. So come on people, help me out!
Thanks in advance. I will be sure to post again when the choices are made!
