Shiso Caprese Salad


  • 2-3 ripe tomatoes, sliced (I like the idea of using Beefsteak tomatoes, since shiso is also called a "Beefsteak plant". Seems complementary.)
  • 10-20 shiso leaves, stems removed (the leaves can get quite large, so the larger the leaf, the fewer you need. Cut large leaves in half.)
  • 1/2-1 lb Mozarella, sliced
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper


  • Place tomato slice on plate.
  • Place mozzarella slice on the tomato.
  • Place shiso leaf on top of mozzarella.
  • Repeat steps 1-3, until plate is full.
  • Sprinkle with salt & pepper to taste.
  • Drizzle with olive oil and Balsamic vinegar.
